The search is on!

Would you like to serve on the committee to search for UCSB’s next Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Development and Executive Director of the UC Santa Barbara Foundation? Chancellor Yang will soon be selecting two graduate student nominees to serve on this important ad hoc committee.  The AVC for Development is responsible for overseeing fundraising for the Campaign for UC Santa Barbara, the Annual Fund, and the Parents Fund, among others.  The AVC for Development also serves as the Executive Director of the UCSB Foundation, overseeing all the functions of the Foundation and providing appropriate support for the Foundation Board of Trustees.  If you are interested, please contact Diana at lagrunona@gmail.com.

Many graduate students are involved in helping achieve GSA’s goals. We welcome anyone who is interested in becoming involved. Involvement in the GSA provides a greater understanding of how the university operates; a chance to affect policy and thereby improve the lives of graduate students; and a way to meet people outside your department. There are many ways that you can become involved:

  • Serve as your department’s representative: All graduate and professional departments are invited to elect one or more representatives to the GSA, depending on the size of the program enrollment (generally it is one representative for every fifty students enrolled in your department).
  • Committee membership: Serve on one of the many campus committees that need graduate student representatives.
  • Attend a meeting: Come to the General Council meetings and observe what’s going on (we always have free dinner for everyone).
