Call for new VP of Graduate Student Affairs
The GSA is pleased to invite candidates to serve as VP of Graduate Student Affairs. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a dynamic environment that strives to represent student needs at all levels. This year, advocacy for graduate students involves housing, diversity services, outreach to the international student community, and student health.
A Special Election will be held during our regularly scheduled General Assembly meeting on February 7, 2012 at 6 PM in the GSA Lounge. Interested persons should read the job description carefully (see Officer Duties below) before nominating themselves or others. Eligibility
All graduate students currently registered in a degree-granting program are eligible.
Officer Duties
The Vice President of Graduate Student Affairs (VPGSA) shall assist the President in representing GSA interests in matters of UCSB student affairs (GSA Const. art. III, § D.6).
- The VPGSA shall make regular reports to the Executive Committee and to the Assembly.
- The VPGSA shall be the official GSA representative to the Academic Senate Graduate Council Committee on Graduate Student Affairs, the Academic Senate Undergraduate Council, and the Wellness Committee. If necessary, and after being approved by the Executive Committee, the VPGSA may appoint designees to attend meetings of these bodies.
- The VPGSA shall be the lead GSA Officer on housing issues.
- The VPGSA shall oversee the selection process for the Dixon-Levy GSA Service Award.
- The VPGSA shall help facilitate GSA activities.
Salary
$1,000 stipend per quarter (pro-rated for winter quarter)
How to Apply
1) Nominations should be emailed to the President before 3 PM on Feb. 7th.
2) Attend the February 7th General Assembly meeting. Present your ideas, skills, and talents relevant to the position. Assembly representatives may ask questions. Serious candidates should contact the President to become familiar with current graduate student needs and Executive Officer actions to address those needs.
3) GSA Assembly Representatives will hold a vote to elect the new VPGSA after the candidates speak.
4) The decision is announced immediately, and service as VPGSA begins immediately!
Candidates must be present at the Feb. 7th General Assembly meeting in order to be elected to office.
Election will proceed according to GSA Constitution (Article III, § E.3) and GSA 2009 Bylaws (Article VII, §C).
